Solukhumbu facing challenges
Our project, located on the Everest Base Camp trail, tackles the urgent waste management crisis in Nepal’s Solukhumbu region, where most trash is burned or dumped openly.
Pangboche, the last inhabited village before base camp, is under growing pressure from rising tourist numbers, making local waste solutions increasingly essential.
Our solution
We are developing an Environmental Conservation Center in Pangboche, rooted in the ancestral Sherpa values of protecting and living in harmony with the mountain environment.
The center will combine high-altitude waste management, community training, and local empowerment, with a Material Recovery Facility and Community Hall at its core, sorting, recycling waste, and educating hikers.
A new women-led social enterprise will transform recovered materials into upcycled products, creating local livelihoods while providing a sustainable, locally managed solution to waste.
Together, these initiatives aim to turn waste into opportunity and place the local community at the heart of long-term environmental conservation.

Our MRF Construction has begun!!
After working on the project planning for more than four years, we started the construction of the Pangboche MRF in June 2026!
